This policy is written under the General Data Protection Regulation, and describes the notfour app and this site.
This site itself
This site sets no cookie, runs no analytics, has no advertising and no tracker of any kind. Nothing on it is loaded from another company's servers: the typeface, the images and the stylesheet all come from this site, so no third party learns that you were here.
Our host, Vercel, keeps the ordinary server log every web server keeps, which includes your IP address, for the short time it is kept for security and to run the service.
The waitlist
notfour is not out yet, so the front page carries a form for your email address. If you send it, we keep three things: the address you typed, the moment you joined, and which of the two forms on the page you used. Nothing else. No name, no IP address stored against you, and no record of what you read.
It is used for one thing, and only that: to write to you once, when notfour opens. It is not a newsletter, it is not given or sold to anyone, and it is never used for advertising. The legal basis is your consent, Article 6 (1) (a) GDPR, which you give by sending the form.
To come off the list, write to privacy@notfour.com and we will delete your address. You can do that at any time and you do not have to give a reason. The whole list is deleted once the people on it have been written to.
To keep a script from filling the list, the form checks a field a person never sees, checks that the page was open before it was sent, and limits how often one address may send it. That last check counts against a one-way hash of your IP address, never the address itself, so the record cannot be read back into who you are.
The list is held for us by Supabase, which runs our server and database. Nobody with a browser can read it, change it or delete from it.
What stays on your phone
The three things you write each day, whether each one got done, what got in the way, when a day was closed, your journal pages, your settings and your reminder times are kept in a database inside the app itself.
Voice notes and photographs on a journal page are files in the app’s own storage. They are not in your photo library, nothing else on the phone can read them, and they leave only when you export them yourself. In a browser the same things are kept by the browser, where only this site can read them.
None of it leaves the device unless you use one of the things below. Reminders are scheduled by the phone itself, and what they say never leaves it.
The planner
For the one free goal breakdown: the goal you type and its dates. For a plan or a course correction: the goal, its dates, and the last seven days set against the plan. For the weekly summary: the last seven days, including up to the first 600 characters of each journal page from that week.
The text goes to notfour’s server and on to the company that runs the model that writes the answer, which today is Anthropic, whose Claude models notfour uses. It is used to write that one answer and for nothing else. It is not used to train a model: the provider is under an agreement not to, and we will only work with a provider who commits to that. If that provider ever changes, this page names the new one.
The answer comes back to your phone and is kept there. Voice notes and photographs are never sent: they are not part of what the planner is given, and cannot be.
The server keeps a count of how many requests were made each day, so the daily limit can be applied, and not what was sent. For the one free breakdown it keeps a random identifier for the device, so that the breakdown is given once.
notfour Pro
An account, sync, goal planning, export, photographs and voice notes exist only for paid users, and only when you choose to use them.
An account holds your email address, or the identifier that signing in with Apple or Google gives us. It is held for us by Supabase, which runs notfour’s server and database.
With sync on, your days, your journal pages, your goals and plans, and three settings — theme and the two reminder times — are copied to your account so your own devices agree with each other. Only you can read them. Voice notes and photographs are not copied to your account: they stay on the device they were made on.
notfour Pro is sold by Apple through the App Store and by Google through Google Play. They take the payment and we never see your card or your address. RevenueCat checks for us whether a subscription is active, using a random identifier or, once you sign in, your account identifier, and tells notfour’s server when a subscription starts, renews or ends. It never receives your days.
Never in notfour
There is no analytics, no crash reporting service, no advertising identifier and no advertising, in the app or on this site. Nothing you write is sold, shared for marketing, or used to profile you, and nothing you do in the app is measured for anyone.
Deleting everything
Settings, Delete all data erases every day, journal page, photograph, voice note, goal, plan and setting from the device, and empties the space they were kept in. There is no undo.
Signed in, the same step deletes your account and every copy of your days on the server with it. A photograph or a voice note can also be removed on its own, on the day it was made. The random identifier for the free goal breakdown stays, so that the free breakdown is not given twice.
Where it is processed
Supabase runs the server and the database. Vercel serves this site. RevenueCat checks subscriptions. Anthropic writes the planner’s answers. Apple and Google sell the subscription. Each receives only what its part needs.
Some of them process data outside the European Union. Where they do, the transfer rests on the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses.
What is on your phone is kept until you delete it. What is in your account is kept while the account exists. A waitlist address is kept until the list is written to, or until you ask us to remove it.
Your rights
You can ask what is held about you and have it corrected, deleted or restricted, object to it being used, and have a copy in a form another program can read — the export in settings gives you that at any time without asking anyone. Where anything rests on your consent, you can withdraw it.
Write to privacy@notfour.com. You can also complain to a data protection authority; in Germany that is the authority of the state you live in.
